In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten, the Loyal Subjects of our dread Sovereigne Lord, King James, by the Grace of God, of Great Britaine, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, &c.
In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are signed below, the Loyal Subjects of our esteemed Sovereign Lord, King James, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, etc.
Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith, and the Honour of our King and Country, a Voyage to plant the first colony in the Northerne Parts of Virginia; doe, by these Presents, solemnly and mutually in the Presence of God and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civill Body Politick, for our better Ordering and Preservation, and Furtherance of the Ends aforesaid; And by Virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equall Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions, and Offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meete and convenient for the Generall Good of the Colonie; unto which we promise all due Submission and Obedience.
Having undertaken this journey for the Glory of God, the Advancement of the Christian Faith, and the Honor of our King and Country, to establish the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia; we, by these presents, solemnly and mutually in the presence of God and one another, agree to come together into a civil Body Politick, for our better organization and preservation, and to further the purposes mentioned above; and by this authority, we will create, enact, and establish, just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions, and Offices, as needed, that are deemed most suitable and beneficial for the General Good of the Colony; to which we pledge our full Submission and Obedience.
In Witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names at Cape Cod the eleventh of November, in the Raigne of our Sovereigne Lord, King James of England, France, and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland, the fiftie-fourth, Anno. Domini, 1620.
In witness of this, we have signed our names here at Cape Cod on the eleventh of November during the reign of our Sovereign Lord, King James of England, France, and Ireland, the eighteenth year, and of Scotland, the fifty-fourth year, in the year 1620.
